Foliage in the White Mountains of New Hampshire

Hi Everyone,


I am following Trowski's lead. Below are a few pictures I took on Sunday. After taking them I read that a polarizer filter helps with foliage, so I will try that this weekend. Also, I was curious what people do to help with a cloudy/overcast ski (if anything).


Finally, I wanted to let New Englanders that may be interested in foliage know that the season is one of the better in recent memory but also ahead of schedule. This weekend may be a good time to get out in the White Mountains. The maples have definitely turned, a few of the others are still green.


All shots are with a Canon 7D, EFS 15-85.

Good Morning Everyone:


Just to let you know we are at peak in the northern White mountains as of this writing. With the impending storm we may loose a fair bit of the foliage and many people may want to look more the middle and southern Whites for "peak" colors.

Very nice! Here in WI it looks like fall colors will come early too....


The overcast sky is a challenge for landscape shots and can really mess with your camera's light meter. I try to leave the sky out of the frame whenever possible on days like that. I particularly like your last shot for that reason. I like the mist, and there's no gray sky to detract from the shot.


An overcast sky can be a blessing, however, for close up work or portraits. It allows you to work more easily in the middle of the day when light would otherwise be harsh and cast stripy shadows everywhere. It also produces a diffuse light that can help colors pop and give a more natural look to portraits.


Enjoy the 100-400. I know jealousy is not a nice character trait, but I am, well, feeling jealous! [:O]
