    Technologically challenged, help greatly appreciated

I have 4 images I would like critiqued but am unable to upload due to exceeding size restrictions. The images are between 2.63 mb and 5.23mb and are also wider than the 800 pixel requirement too. I took the photos of some Cherry Blossom trees but I have to go back and retake the photos next week because the trees will be in full bloom. The photos don't look great in my opinion and just wondering if someone can offer suggestions on how to get the photos on the forum so they can be critiqued and I can take better photos next week.

    Many thanks everybody

There are a couple of ways people deal with the file size limitations. I'll give you the simplest version:

Download Fastone Image Resizer. Using Faststone:

Click on the "Advanced Options" button

    Put a checkmark beside "Resize"

Choose the radio button "Resize based on one side"

Predefined size: Choose "Long Side" and enter "800"

    Click "OK"

In the "Rename" field back on the main screen enter "*_small" (this will rename your picture adding "_small" to it instead of overwriting the original image)

    Click "Convert"

Now you should have an image that is no longer than 800 pixels on the longest side.

Now upload the picture to your account so you can use it in posts.

If you use mac/iPhoto you can click file-export and then you can select a size (try "high" for quality and "large" for size) and save to desktop. There might be a similar operation for PCs. Sorry I can't be of much help, but that's how I do it. [8-|]

In iPhoto with File menu > Export, if you set Kind to JPG you can set Size to Custom and pick a maximum dimension - set that to 800 pixels for images to be posted here. [8-|][8-|]
