Backyard Flowers

    Lots of practice opportunities...

Lovely garden, great starting shots. I'd agree with boosting the exposure and perhaps add a bit more contrast and saturation.

Living in central Athens, I've forgotten the luxury of such a fine garden as yours, but I offer the image below as an inducement - if one were needed - for buying a macro lens.

I forgot to add that my reason for posting my image was to show that you can push the limits with flowers and break the rules. I'm not saying my rose shot works, but you can push the narrow DOF, lighting / composition and sharpening much farther than you might think.

This was in the first 10 shots taken with my 50 f1.8, at 1.8. Flowers are always fun subjects.

These are really stunning. I like to black background against the color. We've got a 40D and the new 5D MII along with a solid Gitzo tripod and two "L" series lenses (24-105 & 70-200 2.8 IS) currently so with practice I'm hoping we can learn to create shot like these as well.

What lens are you using in these shots?

    Fish

I'm not certain if you're question was directed at me,
but if it was, I use the Cannon 100m f/2.8 macro for most of my flora.
The Orchid was shot with a borrowed Sigma 50.

Thanks Tim. The local orchid greenhouse have me some shooting privledges last winter when I was cutting my teeth in Photography and it was a great way to learn through trial. Hoping to get back in there this year as well.
