Generally OK, some pretty good, some unique things, some collectors-only stuff (gold plated, alligator skin, etc.), but most of all: way, way, *way* overpriced.

The only thing I envy about Leica are very fast and wide angle short backfocus lenses. Now that the EVIL (Electronic Viewfinder Interchangable Lens) camera market is heating up, I expect this to be remedied by other manufacturers at one tenth the price.

Best ultramicrotomes money can buy! However, I hate their glass knife makers. As Neuro pointed out, if you are in the sciences, you tend to accumulate a lot of Leica products. They even produce disposable materials (e.g., glass strips for making glass knives).

But on to the cameras...my lab bought an R9 with the digital module once to redo some pictures for a teaching text. Incredible waste of money. Good thing it wasn
