What's bad about the Canon 5d mkii???

Yes, the peripheral autofocus points are not so good as the center point. But i think, if you really want speed, better autofocus and to photograph sport, action mostly, then you should consider 7D. For my usage..i dont feel restricted by older AF system at all.


In my opinion, 5D was not designed for speed and action photography (despite that, you can still photograph anything). Landscape and other type of photograpy it does perfect.


If you do not know, what exactly type of lens do you want, the 24-105 IS is perfect. I find it more useful for me than 24-70, because of the IS. For indoor photograpy without flash 24-70 would be more useful, but still not so good as primes with wider aperture, like mentioned Daniel.

I really like my 5DII. I'm also really glad I kept my 7D, for the reason mentioned above - the 5DII is not an action camera. If you want better AF combined with FF, you need the 1Ds (and even then you don't get the frame rate of a 7D or 1D). The 5DII is particularly useful for indoor/low light (with a prime) or landscape shooting. The 24-105mm lens is a great deal as a kit and is a good lens for general use. I use a flash with it when shooting indoors after dark, or switch to my 85L.

It's worth mentioning that for non-moving objects, the IS and short focal length make the 24-105 actually *more* hand-holdable than the 85 f/1.2. With the 24-105 and a 5DII, you can get pictures in *amazingly* low light. Night photography with no tripod is no problem at all.

It's simple. A larger sensor makes your lenses act like shorter lenses with the same aperture. Anyone who tells you differently is selling something. []


(Of course there are IQ implications of cropping, and different bodies have other differences, so the real world choice is more complicated. But as to full frameness vs APS-Cness, that's it.)

Pretty much the antithesis of a nearly-3-year-old, who is my primary indoor subject. But great for museums!
