Simga 8-16mm About to Ship (for cropped cameras)

The pre-order page on adorama went live today for the new:

Sigma 8 - 16mm f/4.5-5.6 DC HSM AutoFocus Wide Angle Zoom Lens for Canon EOS Digital SLR Cameras.

    http://www.adorama.com/Als/ProductPage/SG816EOS.html

This is the widest lens made for 1.6 crop cameras!

    Nope, it's not. [:P]

AFAIK, the widest is the Vivitar 7mm f/3.5 Fisheye - and it's been available for almost a year. The Sigma 8-16mm is the widest rectilinear lens, though.

Bryan, any chance you're planning on reviewing this new Sigma? I won't ask when, or if you can do it soon, because I know your best answer would probably be "as soon as I can!" []

Looks cool! I'd like to see some first opinions on this one.

Ever since Sigma had made the announcement about 5 new lenses or updates to existing glass, I have been feverishly scouring the intertubes for possible reviews.

I'm very pleased that they are incorporating HSM and OS in these lenses. I personally believe that Sigma's HSM is just as good as Canon's USM (queue the tomato throwing). Not sure about the OS vs IS, but nonetheless, a great move on Sigma's part.

    Can't wait....
