    Mammoth Sunflower Macros

Probably my last shots before they totally fall apart or the birds get to them.[]

    Good eyes, Daniel...

Great shots, Tom! Second is my favorite, first could use a bit more DoF (difficult, I know - that's where flash comes in for macro).

    John,

I shot this a few times with different amounts of DOF. I settled on the green leaves because I liked the fine hairs. If I focused on the tiny flowers nearest to me I lost the detail of the leaves. I was set up studio style with continuous lighting and shot at f/14. The histogram displayed a near perfect arc. Maybe flash would have allowed me to shoot at f/22 but then flatness and color control would have entered into the shot. Either way it was a tough one.

Sounds like a good setup - and I like the detail on the leaves. With a sunflower that big, it's tough, for sure. Nice shot!
