Help! My 7D thinks there's a flash attached....
... and there is not. I can't set control settings for off camera flash now. Any ideas? I can't get the built in flash to pop up either. [] Regardless of mode selection, the pop-up flash stay's down. Pressing the flash button in front left (camera's left) doesn't make flash pop up either.
Do I have a short? The hot shoe mount looks clean and free of debris.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as we are trying to get a family portrait together and I'd light to set up the flashes off camera.

Hey Paul,
Merry Christmas!
All I can think of right now would be to try and take out the camera battery and see if it will reset. In the first Camera Menu under flash there is a way to clear all flash settings. Also check the little spring loaded metal channel tabs on either side of the on camera flash shoe, sometimes they get stuck.

Since the camera thinks it has a flash on it, that's why the pop-up flash won't pop-up. So you have to unstick that micro switch, I think it is under the right hot shoe channel.
All you have to do is push on the metal slider contacts on either side of the hot shoe, you can use a toothpick. I think that may fix it, I've heard of this before.
Or, try and put the actual flash on and off the camera hot shoe a few times.
Good Luck!

If you turn the camera on an angle you can look under the right channel and you should see a very small black switch, it
