    Recently sold items

I recently sold 3 Canon lenses, a 2X II extender, and an external battery pack. All were advertised on this forum as well as another popular photo forum. Interestingly, all items sold from the ads on the other forum and I had no contacts from anyone who indicated they saw my ads here. Is this site too new/untrusted? Or just coincidental?

I'm envious that you were able to sell yours! I've have my 300mm f/4 IS listed here and on ebay with no luck and my lens is about as new as used gets! I only used it about a month or so and have cut around $250 off what I paid. And I thought glass holds their value!?

    Congrats on your sales! [Y]

I'd love to get that 300mm f/4 IS but it'd have to be a trade...you need a 32" Spanish made U.S.M.C. NCO sword, The Amazing Spiderman #129 (first appearance of the Punisher) and an assortment of Blue Ray movies that I thought kinda sucked? Oh, and a ST-E2.

I would so much prefer to sell it here on TDP rather than ebay so I don't have to give ebay 9% of it.

    Thanks for looking!

LOL...AMAZING PRICE!!!! Would you be interested in shipping to Canada? If so, I'm very interested. If not, then hang tough, someone will jump on it, especially at that price.

Seems like all the deals to be had are in the 'Good Ole US of A'!

Goodness ...and all I was going to do was ask you to pay postage!

    Denise,

Just from my limited experience on eBay, being a business owner, and in my early years living with a dad who has a PhD in Psychology, I will tell you that part of your problem is that you are asking too high an initial price. If you want to sell it, set it at no reserve, and let the competitive juices of the buyers flow. They will get into a bidding war, and your lens will probably sell for more than you are asking now, but the starting price will be lower.

It is akin to the ownership phenomenon that occurs in retail every day. If you hand someone the remote after a quick demo and let them take control of the system, they will feel attachment and want to buy it more than if you just do the demo and just ask them to buy. It is the reason that car dealerships offer test drives. It is the reason that grocery stores offer tastings of their wares set up in kiosks manned by friendly-looking little old ladies.

I know it is a leap of faith, but honestly, I am a candidate for your lens, and I saw the listing, but of course didn't know it was you, and my first thought was "I guess this person doesn't really want to sell this lens." The price isn't the issue. I think it is very reasonable. It is all about the tactics and the psychology of selling.

I hope this helps! I have some things I need to attend to fiscally at the moment, otherwise I'd like to take you lens off your hands right now. I know it has been well cared-for. Good luck!

I do know you are 100% correct. The bidding war has gotten the best of me many times. After awhile, it's not so much about the item but about winning the item! I am just way too afraid that with my luck ...winning bid will be hundreds lower than what I have it at now! I just can't bring myself to take that risky step even though I know I may come out ahead! If it wasn't so new, I guess I'd be more willing to take thechance.

    Denise
