    Sigma 150-500

As some of you know I recently had an opportunity but opted out of buying the Canon 500L. None the less, I would still like a little more range than my 100-400L offers. After some research, I ran across the Sigma 150-500 f 5-6.3 and it seems like a a good option if the 500L is out of your price range. Based on the FM reviews and the pics on Pixel Peeper, this lens looks like it might be worth the investment, but before dropping that kind of money, I was curious if any of you had experience with this lens---Your thouths are appreciated.

Bob, I had this lens a few years ago,and sold it about 3 months after I bought it. not a very good lens IMO, it's soft

wide open at 500mm, bokeh is only so so. maybe it's just my copy. or maybe I got spoiled by the L lenses. if you really want this lens, I would try that one first before you buy it.

I know you really want something longer, will you consider a EF 500mm non IS version or if it's still too expensive, maybe waiting for the 500mm 5.6 is a better choice, but who knows. like I said anything longer than 420mm is not cheap in the Canon line.

one more thing, have you ever tried the "tape the pins" trick? maybe you should try it on your 100-400mm with your 7D.

    good luck!

Well, the auto focus isn't really that big of a deal to me, I just hate the IQ I get with the 2x extender. I haven't tried the 1.4 yet---But perhaps I will before consider dropping more $$$$$.

    Thanks,

Hmm, I don't need IS, but can't live without AF. if I can I would go with FD 500mm or 600mm, they are about $2000-$2500 right?
