Canon Landscape Lens on a 550D

Hmm it makes it a hard choice between the Canon 10-22, Tokina 11-16 and Sigma 8-16.


Considering price, the Tokina is the cheapest, then comes Sigma, and then Canon.


Considering maximum aperture the Tokina would be best for low light photography (2.8), whereas Canon and Sigma are slightly

Is it true that at f/2.8 you have a smaller DOF (due to bigger apperture) and thus it's easier to get background blur?

Yes.

is getting some proper background blur also perfectly possible with the other (from f3.5) lenses?

You can get background blur at f/3.5 but it is easier with f/2.8. To get a resonable amout of background blur you have to stay very close with either lens.

Should that be a reason to choose for this one,

Unless you do a lot of that kind of thing not necessarily, it is one those plusesthat if you need a wide aperture for other reasonsthen it's usefull for other thingsalso.

If you stayedcloser you could get even more blur. Such as in a head shot, Bryan has some of thosein the Sigma review.
