I don't have a hood for this lens, but the lens cap was on. Anyway, it is quite troublesome to fit a lens with the hood attached into my bag, and this probably happend in my bag. By the way, I dropped my Tamron 17-50 2.8 on a tiled floor with the hood attached. The hood took all the beating, but no damage to the lens, so I agree that a hood can be a good protection.
