    Need Some Advice

so recently my mom asked me to take a photo of a chocolate bar for the store she works at, so i did, she and the other employee loved it so she asked me to take some more of the rest of them and a few of them in group shots for the site, i did and again they loved them, they're on their site now, but the main reason i'm making this is that the owner and maker of the bars has seen them and wants to use them on her site and i was wondering what i should charge for them, i've never sold pics before and not sure what the asking price should be for these.

i was just wondering what you guys think about them too, any advice would be helpful.

    single shots

and the group shots i made

keep in mind i did these with no proper lighting and just used natural light, plus i had no studio too, or tripod.

If you are looking to make money, do what you think.

But if it were me, I would try and get some free chocolate.

I am not a pro photographer but do eat chocolate.

Ha...I like the idea of some free chocolate.

Overall, it really depends on a lot of factors ranging from how they may want to use your photos to how you feel about being compensated. Is this simply people using something nice that you did or are they crossing lines where they are taking advantage of you? Also, your Mom works there, would asking for money make things awkward for her and if so, how much is that worth?

If it was me, I would likely feel fine letting them use what I created on a limited basis. At the time, you did not expect compensation when you created it, it is just a matter of someone appreciating it and using it a bit different. But, to me, the line would be crossed if they started to ask for more effort from you, additional photos or additional edits. Or, if they were going to start using your photos to the extent where they would want you to sign away rights, etc.

Fun projects should be fun. Things that become work to you and professional, that is a different arena. It is always important to draw boundaries.

the place my mom is at is mostly a distributor, they get the chocolate from Venezuela and ship it all over america, but they do chocolate tastings, also they have a shop there to sell gifts and such, they also sell goods made with their chocolate from candy makers, which is where the bars come in.

i did the first as a favor for my mom, but if her work ask's i'm treating it as a job.

honestly my moms place is just using one picture (number 2 of the group shots) but the woman who makes the bars the one interested in putting them on her site as a display.

I think if anything else at least by word of mouth you can gain experience through these little gigs.

But overall I really like the shots, the first one seems a little underexposed compared to the other ones and a little crooked. But over all I really like them and how you put in a tile like that. Good work.

i'll admit that i'd like to re-take the shots someday and get them right but until then these will have to do.

You did a really nice job and I don't have any reason to be concerned about the quality.

actually i've done a real paying job for them last month, i got a better setup for it and did a better job of it (different chocolates)

i took 8 pictures and decided to charge $25.00 a piece for the instead of an hourly rate, since it was my first and all, they were pleased with them.

all pics are on there site!

here are links to view them
