I just played with it and did not find a perfect fix, but close. So, part of it is Joel's suggestion, setting up a dedicated button to switch between EVF and LCD, but you also need to go into Tools 3 and switch "Viewfinder/screen display" from auto to viewfinder. Then the button can be used to toggle between LCD and EVF. Granted, it is not just like a DSLR where the EVF is viewfinder only and you hit menu or "Q" and the information is displayed on the LCD.
