Joel, I'd love to know how you got that shot. I'm guessing it was captive, or were in a blind at the perfect location? I did not notice the lens you used, but I'm curious about that too.

It was a bird living close to my brother in law's home in South Carolina. He had seen it many times in his backyard. I used an audio recording to call it in. The lens was Canon RF 100-500mm. I darkened the background in post to remove distracting elements ..... criss crossing small branches mostly.
Sometimes you don't need a long lens. My wife was cleaning some forest trails, when a swarm of chickadees started buzzing her head. She looked up and saw they were trying to warn her about the owl nearby. After watching each other for a bit, the owl turned away to watch the forest before finding itself a snake to snack on.
