    Canon V1

It is only getting a little bit of fanfare but Canon has announced a new PowerShot in the Canon V1. Oddly, just released in Asia, somewhat similar to the M2.

If ever announced in the USA, I would likely find this tempting as it has updated AF (I am hearing similar to the R6), the sensor is 2x the size of my G7XII, same battery as my M6 II, and a relatively bright lens, granted a limited but very usable focal length range of 16-50 mm (FF equiv).

But, perhaps most interesting, Canon announced a new Powershot camera and what is rumored to be a new series in the V-series.

I’m also tempted. Basically the size of my M6II without a lens, uses batteries I already have. Focal length range is very useful, I shoot ultrawide pretty often and a fixed lens starting at 24mm (equivalent) isn’t as attractive. Only thing that would stop me is if it doesn’t shoot RAW stills, but that seems very unlikely. I’ll almost certainly preorder, assuming it’s distributed here. Even if not, at some point it will show up on Amazon (that’s how I bought my M2).

It could be super handy for quick wide-angle videos. Often on wildlife trips I find myself wanting to grab a video of the scene, but I'm shooting with a big lens. So being able to pull out a camera like this would be great, and it would give better results than a phone.

The PowerShot V1 that I preordered is on a FedEx truck for delivery this afternoon. Some retailers have the V1 in stock.

    Keep us posted.

My pocket camera is still the G7X II. It works well, but I am intrigued by the larger sensor and updated AF system. So, I am curious how good it is.
