    Keith, dumb question, but how did you get the lightning and the flash in the picture?


    I'm guessing long shutter speed (for the lightning) and 2nd curtain synch on the 580EXII?

    it was a 1/2 second exposure, f/7.1 ISO 640, 40D 100-400 @400mm, second curtain. It was tough I was focusing in the dark waiting for lightning flashes for focus assist. It was about 100 feet away. I did move slightly closer for the second shot.

    I'm not sure Central Park counts as "nature", but this is one of my favorite shots I've taken...

    It actually isn't HDR....I shot a five-exposure bracket expecting to do HDR, but there wasn't enough contrast in the scene for the HDR to add anything. This single exposure (which the camera thought was one stop overexposed) ended up looking better than the merged image, so I went with it.
