    helmet = fully sealed L lens

    gloves = fully sealed camera body

    pants = quality lens filter

    boots = everytime

    Safety as an analogy to cameras is a system, with no a single line defense. Forget any one, and you'll still be at significant risk. Sorry, I couldn't think of anything better for boots... [:P]

    I'm saving for thef2.8 70-200 for fast/low lightaction shots...the crop bodies are catching up andappear to be digging in deep...I love my 17-55mm. []

    Cathy, just be aware that the XSi is not a weather-sealed body. Of course, a Ziploc bag with a couple of rubber bands will provide substantial protection.

    Every firefighter knows there's no such thing as weather-sealed <anything>, and also can tell if something will survive the fireground with one glance. A Motorola indicator is usually a good start, but only if it was made for the fire service.
    We're a Canon/Profoto family: five cameras, sixteen lenses, fifteen Profoto lights, too many modifiers.
