With you and my daughter keeping my sensibility in check about buying anymore lenses right now while I'm still saving for that darn tripod, it's going to be really tough

It's worth it. You can't spend $1100 in photography for anything better. If I were you I wouldn't buy more lenses. But that's just me.

Just the other day, a Canon Ef 24-105mm f/4L IS got away from me for $400

I can't tell you for sure, but that lens is probably either a bad copy, in poor physical condition, or the whole deal is a scam. Avoid "ridiculous" pricing. If it seems to good to be true, it is []

I'd use your 55-250 and 300 f/4. Your 100 is too short. The 300 f/4 is a bit too long, but has Mode 2 (panning) IS. However, I would use the 55-250 as primary telephoto. That's my opinion [H]

That's what I was thinking. Granted, the 55-250 isn't the best for image quality but it's the most logical choice for this year's show ...but next year, well we'll see! [:P]
