Looking to buy first photo printer for home use
I am trying to decide between the Epson R2880 or the Canon PIXMA 9000 or 9500. I have read reviews on both and think they both would fit my needs which is mainly printing my photos for personal use or printing for friends. I have tried to read prior post on this topic but have not had much luck. Any input is appreciated and if any other printers are compatible please let me know...thank you in advance

Re: Looking to buy first photo printer for home use
I have used the Canon 9000 and thought very well of it. Black and white came out very well. The ink gets pricey, though.
Deep rebates were available on the Canon printers a bit ago. Keep an eye out for bargains from people that bought them with the intention offlipping them todefraythe cost of a body. Several have popped up on my local CL.

Re: Looking to buy first photo printer for home use
Canon printers seem to have fewer ink clogging issues than epson models, the newer Epson printers seem to be improved now. I bought a used epson 3800, and found it to be excellent. It costs a lot for ink cartridges, but they are less per print because they are larger.
Check for refurbished ones on the Epson site. A 3800 refurb with a set of new ink cartridges can be a bargain, because you get $500 worth of ink with it, enough to last for a lot of prints. You need to register and keep coming back, because they often slash refurb prices. right now, $995 for a 3800 refurb is too high.

Re: Looking to buy first photo printer for home use
I purchased a 50D in November and with the rebate for also buying the pro9000, the printer ended up being about $50. This thing is huge, but from what I can tell it is great. I am a amateur and this is by far the most expensive (retail) printer I have ever owned. So I don't have much of a reference.
After acquiring the printer, I did notice some of them popping up on craigslist. So depending on the size of the market you live in, you should be able to find someone selling one for a good price. And it may be new in the box still.
I don't have any input for the Epson printer you asked about.
