    Lens strap?

Well, now I've got my Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L USMand it seems to me if it came with a nifty tripod collar it should also have a way to attach a neck strap to the lens itself. AmI missing something? How would you attach one?

The weight of the lens pointing down its alright for the lens mount so I just use the stap with the camera. The collar is just for monopod/tripod use but I'm sure a 3rd party has a stap for it somewhere.

Check out the Black Rapid R-strap. It attaches to the tripod threads. It also laysacrossyour chest instead of around your neck. Way more comfortable in my option, especially with a long lens.

While it seems big and heavy at ~3 pounds, the EF 70-200 f/2.8 is not deemed (by Canon) to be heavy enough to warrant a lens strap. The big+fast primes (200mm f/2, 300/400mm f/2.8, 500mm f/4, etc.) which tip the scales at 5-12 pounds to have integrated mounts for a strap. Heck, the lens hoods for those primes weigh more than a 50mm f/1.4 lens!

So, I shouldn't worry about letting it hang?

The reason for the tripod ring has more to do withbalancewhen the lens is used on a tripod. The lens mount will support the weight of the lens with no problems (presumably the engineers at Canon believe that, since they didn't put strap mounts on the lens). What that might do to your neck may be another consideration. The BlackRapid strap is nice in that it distributes the weight to your shoulder/chest.
