    Re: Recently sold items

just to help out a bit here......i was going to order from B&H for shipping to hamilton, untill i found that great deal on kijiji. so i did a bit of research.i dont think there is a problem with USPS, its a lot cheaper than courier, lens are duty free, so you wont get hit with that, and as for brockerage fees, maybe this chart will help http://www.ups.com/content/ca/en/shipping/cost/zones/customs_clearance.html the only thing i would worry about is tax(unless you live in alberta), as most couriers will demand the tax for the declared value on delivery.

10 responses and only one addressed the OP questions. Suddenly it's become a "ship to Canada thread".

I'd say you couldn't sell it because 95% of people who visit TDP probably only care about the reviews and don't visit the forums. TDP isn't really known as a site where you find a good deal.

Denise, I'd try Craigslist. You might have to lower your price a bit because there's lots of very good competition there, though.

I agree, in fact the buy/sell portion of this forum isn't very old either. I've sold a few things here but I guess I just gotten lucky or maybe it's because I've been around here for a while.

I've had it on my local Craigslist for 3 weeks. Price is as low as it's going to go for now ...I'll just keep it otherwise. Adorama offered $900 for E+ condition...I wouldn't even go that far down! In 5 years maybe!

Maybe we all suffer from ADD! [:P] Seriously, I think it all has to do with how long you have been a member on this site and a great deal just has to do with timing. For me, the 300mm isn't exactly a sought after item around here.

BTW - I bought a lens and a flash on this site not too long ago from the same person& I don't even know how long that person has been a member here. I guess I'm just more trusting than most, but I don't regret the purchase at all.

    Denise,

Just from my limited experience on eBay, being a business owner, and in my early years living with a dad who has a PhD in Psychology, I will tell you that part of your problem is that you are asking too high an initial price. If you want to sell it, set it at no reserve, and let the competitive juices of the buyers flow. They will get into a bidding war, and your lens will probably sell for more than you are asking now, but the starting price will be lower.

It is akin to the ownership phenomenon that occurs in retail every day. If you hand someone the remote after a quick demo and let them take control of the system, they will feel attachment and want to buy it more than if you just do the demo and just ask them to buy. It is the reason that car dealerships offer test drives. It is the reason that grocery stores offer tastings of their wares set up in kiosks manned by friendly-looking little old ladies.

I know it is a leap of faith, but honestly, I am a candidate for your lens, and I saw the listing, but of course didn't know it was you, and my first thought was "I guess this person doesn't really want to sell this lens." The price isn't the issue. I think it is very reasonable. It is all about the tactics and the psychology of selling.

I hope this helps! I have some things I need to attend to fiscally at the moment, otherwise I'd like to take you lens off your hands right now. I know it has been well cared-for. Good luck!

I do know you are 100% correct. The bidding war has gotten the best of me many times. After awhile, it's not so much about the item but about winning the item! I am just way too afraid that with my luck ...winning bid will be hundreds lower than what I have it at now! I just can't bring myself to take that risky step even though I know I may come out ahead! If it wasn't so new, I guess I'd be more willing to take thechance.

Denise, I think the price is pretty reasonable now after ebay has taken off their 8% bing cash back. I 'll take it if it was a 400mm 5.6. but i'm pretty sure you can sell it at this price, good luck!

Agreed, and also the fact that a "few"(don't know exact numbers) of the forum-enthusiasts aren't US citizens...I'm not for instance and to be honest I'm not here for buying any stuff. And if I did it I would be only doing it from people I know better...

To be very very very honest, I wouldn't like to see this forum change to an ebay-like buy and sell place. I like it how it is with the occasional buys and sells, but that's just me...
