C&C: Pseudo-macro with new 70-200mm f/4 IS

But f/2.8 is never used for macro so that isn't a macro advantage. Macro apertures range from f/5.6 to f/16 (f/8 is the best on 1.6x, f/11 is the best on FF). I do see you have a 100mm macro

Good point. Now that I think about it most of mine are in fact under f/5.6 unless I've deliberately wanted an effect like the one of my cat's eye in my files.


Yeah I'm a video guy at heart and so my strategy is just lotsa strong lights! They win at everything... except for trying to be inconspicuous... Then they don't work too well...

I've tested the IS with this lens and it IS (no pun intended) awesome. At 200mm I'm getting a solid keeper rate @ 1/25-1/50 second. Here's an example @200mm and 1/30 sec, with/without IS:

I thought you ordered the 17-55mm when you ordered the 70-200mm ...were they out of stock? Also, I noticed you took the Gitzo off the end of your sentence, did you order it? Actually, I thought you bought a tripod months ago.

I know. I've been very erratic and not really sure what I'm doing, but I think I've found a clear game plan:

I was very on and off for that one. I decided to try to handhold the 500 when I get it; as long as people don't thing I'm lugging a disguised RPG-7. At least that's what Nate does []

Actually, I thought you bought a tripod months ago.

I needed some glass first. Plus, Gitzos are very nice but I can't help but say overpriced. [:#]
