    Where are the lenses gone?

See 'Photography Equipment Reviews' => 'Canon Zoom Lens Reviews'

the list is reduced to half. Most of the are 'L' lenses. What happened to other lenses?

    any thoughts?

I think some may have been moved to the "discontinued" section at the bottom.

If they're not L lenses they might be in the EF-S lens list. Not sure. Looks pretty normal to me.

Looks like a lot have been discontinued. A lot of them made no sense to me - 28-90, 28-105, 28-105 II; all up against the $200 kit 28-135. 20-35 against the 17-40 and 16-35. 75-300 (non-IS), 80-200, 100-300, all up against 70-300 (consumer), 70-300 DO, and four 70-200 Ls. The remaining line-up makes more sense.
We're a Canon/Profoto family: five cameras, sixteen lenses, fifteen Profoto lights, too many modifiers.

Reduced from what? The only lenses that have been moved to the discontinued section recently are the EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II and the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS (which is actually still listed on the Canon USA website, although it's been moved to the discontinued section of other country-specific websites). You might notice that those are the only two lenses with a Buy link. All of the others were discontinued quite some time back.

As Ben (btaylor) suggested, check the EF-S list. It makes sense if you think about it - most of the discontinued EF lenses were introduced during the film camera days. Currently, Canon sells far, far more 1.6x crop bodies than full frame bodies, and EF-S lenses are designed for crop bodies. Consumers willing to pay for lenses compatible with FF cameras are often looking for better quality (but there are still a few 'cheap' zooms around). Prime lenses are a slightly different story, but even then, although not as many have been recently discontinued, today's consumer market is all about zoom lenses, and most of the consumer primes are 'old' lenses - almost all of the non-L prime lineup (15mm f/2.8 fisheye, 20mm f/2.8, 24mm f/2.8, 28mm f/2.8, 35mm f/2, 50mm f/1.4 and f/1.8 II, 85mm f/1.8, and 100mm f/2) were released between 1987-1993, i.e. they are around 20 years old.

The recent emphasis has certainly been on L lenses and zooms, and relatively few new plain EF zooms have been released (most are EF-S or L-series).

Also, there are many more discontinued lenses out there than on Bryan's review page, since Canon has been designing, releasing, and discontinuing lenses for a lot longer than Bryan has been publishing reviews of them on his website. The only ones listed in his discontinued sections are the ones recent enough for him to have reviewed.

FYI, you can see the current Canon USA lens lineup here:

You can see all the Canon lenses ever produced, dating back to theSerenar lenses of the mid-1940s, here:
