Self portrait... something is very wrong

Here's a bit of a self portrait witha twist. I haven't been very active here or with the camera lately mostly because I can't pick the camera up!

Bit of a story here...I did this out on the dirt bike about 70kms from town. Lost my front brakes coming around a corner at around 70-80kms/h, hit a rock, landed shoulder first on another rock, bounced off said rock, hit ground, bounced off ground, hit second rock, bounced of second rock, hit tree.... didn't bounce much, said "Ouch".

Long story short one of my fellow riders had to go back to our camp, get my ute and come and pick me up for a very painful 3 hr drive crossing creek beds, hills and generally rubbish terrain to get to the hospital. 6 hrs before they could get it in. Notfun.

    Here's the result-

This is what it's supposed to look like (well sort of):

And this is what it did look like:

    Oops.

This is definitely a show & tell. Glad you were able to make it out ok. Good thing you weren't out riding by yourself.

Hi Ben! That's definitely a big "OUCH" but I do hope you're feeling better now.
    Cheers!

Nice to see you have maintained your sense of humor! So sorry to hear this happened to you!! It sure sounds like it could have been alot worse and you are very blessed to have made it back here to tell us the story!

BTW - Thanks for reminding me why I was such a mean mom & didn't let my son ride dirt bikes growing up!

Take care & I hope you mend quickly!!

    Denise

My shoulder and collarbone just started to hurt just looking at that pic. Thank God your mostly OK. I laid an old Kawasaki KZ1000 down 25 yrs ago and walked away with a fews inches of road rash. Of course that was when I was under 20 and still invincible lol....Hope the shoulder feels not too bad over time..

You forgot to put your comb away...it's messing up the picture [:P]

Haha sorry mate, shit happens I guess! Love the sense of humor, it made me smile [A]and I hope you'll recover pretty soon.

Now are you gonna start how to learn to take pictures with the other arm?

What is exactly the problem by the way? Dislocated shoulder?

Thanks for the well wishes all. It's coming good now - I have most of my movement back. The plate/screws in the xray are an old rugby injury so it was just the dislocated shoulder this time. I dare say the collar bone would have gone too if I didn't have the plate in there - gave it a good whack.

Might be time to sell the motorbikes now, too many injuries. [:'(]I've got two more enduros and 6 rounds of motocross leftfor the season so I'll finish those off(should come inthird ontotal points for the year [Y] )and give it away.Might concentrate on some less self-destructive hobbies like photography and beer drinking.

Sounds and looks rough, Ben. Do you have any residual nerve problems? Moving all your fingers and arm ok? Feeling intact in your arm?

I've seen that injury quite a bit. One of the many reasons I have convinced myself not to get a motorcycle. I have a friend that did some motocross and did a jump the wrong way and ended up with compression fractures of two of his vertebrae. He is lucky he can still walk, but he doesn't race anymore.

I really hope you get to feeling better though.
