What did you shoot, July 19th through July 25th

A few from this weekend's outing in the mountains of Northern New Mexico. Cloudy overcast day, rain and heavy shade in most areas. The Waterfall was very challenging because I had to get me, the camera and the tripod down some steep, wet, muddy terrain to get to it while trying to protect the camera from the rain.

G'day Matt,


The biggest tip I can give you is to be very patient. This little one was only a week old so it's basically sleep, feed, cry, feed, cry, spew, sleep, feed and so on. We ended up putting the shoot on hold after a couple of hours as she was getting a little restless. I'll wait until she's a couple more weeks old and starts to smile and we'll have another go.


Another important this is to establish what the parents are comfortable with. A baby's skin is so soft and a wonderful contrast to the rough skin of the father etc but some parents aren't comfortable showing too much of the bub. Completely understandable for Mum and Dan,but a little sad that people have to think of exposing their kids to the public in case it falls into the wrong hands.


If you're friends with the parents then it's definately a good idea to have a few beers while doing the shoot. This has nothing to do with the outcome at all, I just like beer.

I had a friend do a shoot with her recently and the pictures were amazing to say the least. She said the total shoot took about 3 hours.


Have fun with the baby shoot. After all, that what it is all about.[]

Thanks for advice Ben! I took a few not too long ago of a friends little girl. They can be a handful but I think they make great subjects!

Nice collection, I particularly like the gnarly B&amp;W wood and I'll second what Jonathan said about the waterfall.


Questions; whyare the ISOs and shutter speeds so high on the yellow flowerand stump pix? BTW...nice bokeh on the 2 of these, about as good as you're going to get w/the 100-400.


Where abouts in N. NM were you? My wife and I are heading out after Labor Day....home base will be ABQ w/plans to do an overnight in White Sands (unfortunately the moon will be at about 3% and waningby the time we get there)and then head up to the Taos area for the scenic ring drive. Any suggestions?
