I'd love to see one (or two or three)of these flying around my yard! Getting a picture of it might be worth the risk of getting stung!
Here are some paper wasps I took a photo of last year... XS + kit @ 47mm, f/5.6, 1/45sec, ISO 100 (Got any idea how close I am to these???) []
On second thought, maybe I won't take the risk ...these guys aren't staring at you just to say hello! Although, the top one looks like something out of a Disney movie! [:P]
Oh yes they're not staring to say "Hello!" but they're probably wondering what the heck am I doing in their face or perhaps they're seeing their reflection on the lens.. []
By the way, these wasps are mean.. I've been bitten several times when I was a kid.
This wasp is not that rarely seen in Switzerland. I find it in residential areas, it`s prefering sunny, warm places. As far as I know, its a solitary species.

Iguide-
Search the net for "Hedychrum nobile" instead.
Thank you very much for the suggestion, a very worth while one. I really appreciate an earnest attempt to help find the information I was inquiring about. Not having grown up with computers but rather with libraries and reference books I tend to forget that most likely any information I could be seeking is on the net. Thanks Again.

if you look at the OP's profile you can see that he is from
Switzerland. So I assume, and I may very well be wrong, that the shot
was probably taken in Switzerland or nearby.
I really appreciate you taking the time to find that information out. I never thought of that and it is the most simple way of answering my own question. Thank you very much for your time and effort. If I can ever be of any assistance to you in answering any questions in my field please do not hesitate to contact me.
