    Need Tripod for Macro suggestions

Right before the forum crash I posted this, now its gone. So I repost it

    I need some advice

I want a good Macro tripod I can take out in the woods and use. Looking for a platform that is very stable. I have a 5D MK II andI useit with the 180L macro.

I own the Gitzo GT5541LS already to use with a 500L4. Is there a good arm that you could get to attach to the Gitzo tripod that would work very well?

I have looked at the Gitzo Explorer GT2541E and it looks like it would work fine.

    What would everyone recomend?

Sounds like you already have a great tripod, perhaps a good macro rail would suit your needs. I know RRS makes great equipment for specialty work like this---Here is a link you may be interested in: http://reallyrightstuff.com/rrs/items.asp?Cc=MACRO&iTpStatus=0&Tp=&Bc=

    Good luck,

    Hi Nitehawk:

I have the Gitzo Explorer GT2541E. All I do is outdoor shooting some on trail some not, which in my neck of the woods requires some pretty enthusiastic bush whacking. I can strap it on the back outside of my Lowpro Pro Trekker AW II and we go just about anywhere the pack will fit as the tripod is shorter that the pack. It is also short enough to put inside the pack for when I travel overseas. My largest is the 100-400L, and since it is a zoom and weighs less than their largest recommended lens which I believe was listed as a 200 to 300 prime max lb. I would recommend that you call Gitzo and talk with them. Tell them what you want to us it for and get their thoughts on it. That is what I did and everything works just as slick as a whistle. I have a Kirk macro focusing rail that to me is very good quality and is about $70 lower in cost than RRS. Here is a link so you can compare them both. Pod works great for my macro work. lite weight etc.

I have the Gitzo GT5541LS for the 500L4 lens. It is a very stable platform.

The GT2541EX has a flexible column with a mount that allows it pivot at different angles away from the tripod, it that appears to allow you to get your camera in very low and diffrent angles.

From what I have read the GT2541EX will probably meet my needs very well. What I probably am really trying to find out is if there is an arm/column that could mount on the GT5541LS and do the same. Even though the GT5541LS with this type of set up would be alot heavier, it would mean if I were going back country I wouldn't have to decide between two specialty tripods.

Any one know of an arm/column that is flexible like this.

I have a a Gitzo 3541 and I was checking out the Feisol horizontal adapter kit. I'm not sure how stable it is and I have no experience with it, but it looks pretty cool and it sounds like what you're looking for.
