I just did a few searches for "Price of BritishCanon XX"....seems pretty typical that what they pay in pounds is slightly more than what we pay inUSD.


I can see why your friends make the trip.

It's different almost from country to country. At least the normal prices are. A few weeks ago I looked at prices in the US (I live in the Netherlands, Europe. Which is pretty much next to the England so you would assume the prices are about the same) and while some lenses are more expensive here, some are also cheaper... Different places, different markets.


But still...1599 pounds is equal to 1913 euros which I can almost buy a 70-200 f2.8L IS II for...sigh... there must have been something wrong. If not I'm saving up for the 70-200 f4L IS with 1.4 extender [A]

Sheiky you are right. The 70-200 2.8 is £1699 here in the UK. That's only £100 more than the pre-order price of the 70-300.


Whilst the 70-200 f4 ISI have seen is in a sale the full retail price only seems around £950. Still a lot cheaper than the new 70-300.


I think I'm gonna go for the 70-200 f4 IS. It look like a great lens.

Yup it seems like it's way overpriced...odd since I thought the release price would be around 1500 dollars....and that's not even close to the prices we see here in pounds and/or euros...


Anyway it also helps to wait a few months before buying. Prices tend to be very unpredictable when sales start. For example the 100mmL's price went up first, then lowered and is currently a lot better priced than it was at it's release.


Also lenses tend to be a lot more expensive during the summerperiod, if you want to buy cheap, buy when the weather outside isn't motivating for photography []
