    Hi Bill W,

Can you kindly recommend a couple of Bird ID books?

I would be interested in a larger stay at home reference book with nice pictures and perhaps a smaller field book.

    Thanks,

    Rich

I think the Peterson books are nice, there are several variations.

Richard.....for North America I'd recommend, for home use; The Sibley Guide to Birds by David Allen Sibley. The only negative I have concerning this book is; the rendition coloring isn't always spot on compared to real life. But other than that point, it's an excellently detailed book.

For field use, I've been using (past 25 years) the The Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Birds....Eastern Region. Though it's starting to show it's age, it's very well constructed (it has survived many camping trips to NH and ME) and relatively small; w 3.75 x h 7.5 x d 1.25 inches.

If you're by an ocean Richard (for home use because it is a normal size book); The Shorebird Guide by Michael, O'Brien, Richard Crossley, and Kevin Karlson.

These are common books and easily found (Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Borders, etc.), though; Sibley's book is very popular and can be scarce.

    Regards,

    Bill

Hi Guys! Thank you for your thoughts. I will try and post a couple of more shots taken some time ago of the same bird and one of what must be the alternative gender. Forgive the quality, but I NEED A 400/500mm lens!

Use the rich formatting button to the left of the reply button.

Then, you can post with the insert image icon or the HTML icon (if you select this option, thencopy the HTML link and paste into the HTML window).
