Ha ha ha, good one Neuro. I 've been misunderstanding it all this time... Thanks for the correction Mr Setters.
I think I'll still be eating humble pie by Christmas time...probably New Years too.[:$]
My apologies to rusty as well.

Alternative proposal, buy 3 great primes for about the cost of the 35L:
- Sigma 30mm f/1.4
- Sigma or Canon 50mm f/1.4
- Canon 85mm f/1.8
Full disclosure, I have the 7D and love it! However I loved my Rebel XT before it too... When I look back at my favorite pictures of the kids a large percentage of them involved apertures larger than f/2.8. I have both the Sigma 30mm and Canon 85mm (haven't used either 50mm) and they are on my 7D all the time.
You obviously can't go wrong w/ the 7D or the 35L alone but this alternative giving you the 50mm and 85mm focal lengths will help you create some stunning pictures of your kid(s). Don't underestimate the portability factor either. Your existing lenses are obviously top quality but they are also heavier and bulkier and these sleek primes are more outing-friendly (and easier for smaller-handed and/or less-experienced folks to handle, potentially getting you in some of the pictures!!).
Good luck and let us know what you decide to do!!!

Thank you for all the responses. I think getting a new body is the way to go or us. Whether it be a 50D, 60D, or 7D. I
I think you
That is, high ISO performance.

I think if you get a f/2 or f/1.4 without AF Micoradjust you will be disappointed, unless you you are lucky enough to have the perfect combination of body and lens. Having said that, I would go with the 7D. I have a 50D and I like my 50D, but the reason I have the 50D is because it was the best APS-C body in 2008. For me to go from my 50D to the newer 7D is not as compelling of an upgrade as glass. However, going from a 30D is going to be a huge jump, one I would take. In short, I like my 50D, but if I were buying one this week, it would be a 7D.

I hope this helps,
