I really like the framing on your second Gull image ... hope you don't mind ...but I couldn't help looking at it closer. I did some processing with Shadows/Highlights and unsharp mask which really makes it pop I think. Well done on this one !!

Here's another one from our recent rainy weekend .... I like the water beads on the bird's head. Used off camera flash due to poor ambient light.

I have owned the 300 2.8 for about 3 years .... I was so impressed with everything I read about the sharpness, contrast and bokeh that I couldn

to get sharpness on birds the biggest two things are to avoid under exposure and to get enough shutter speed. Push the ISO if you have to but get that histogram over toward the right side (without clipping the whites).

agreed! faster shutter speed is the way to get sharp image. IS sometimes can help but very very limited. IS only effected in certain range of shutter speed, slower or faster than that range make the IS useless . pushing the histogram to the right but not clip the whites to get the best exposure( for RAW) will give you the most details and lowest noise you can get.


finally understand something like this after one year massing around and there are still lot to learn.just like this forum and the "work shop" Joel.
