    Canon 100L IS Macro---WOW

Just recieved my Canon 100 2.8L IS Macro yesterday and all I can say is wow---Razor sharp right out of the camera. Alos noticed that the 7D's AF tracks much better with this lens as opposed to my 100-400 or 24-105. Off work today while I wait for the HVAC man to come fix my heater so I'll have some time to play? Only thing is, I have this great newmacro glass and not one bug to be found [:'(].

JJ if you are using AF on the 180mm then nah, its not that good and its hit and miss. But the 180mm using live view for macro work manual focus is extermley sharp. The 180mm IQ for straight up macro work on a tripod is superior to the 100mm.

thanks Rick, I know you have both. I didn't do a lot of research before I bought it. mainly is because I already have the 100mm non L and I want the better bokeh the 180mm can do, but my 180mm doesn't seem like a lot better than my 100mm in term of sharpness and color, but of course the bokeh is better, but still, I am kind of disappointed. maybe I need do more work to know this lens better. but what I really hoped was a new 200mm 4.0L IS macro anyways[]

Ok JJ, Here ya go--and the ruling is in---I like this lens. Took the below test shots---wasn't really paying to much attention to detail or technique, but I am impressed and very happy with the purchase--None of these shots have any edits of any kindexcept for the 100% crop. Each pair of pictures consists of the full size image and the 100% crop for comparison---You may notice, I still have a lot to learn about macro work, but I am confident the lens did its Job very very well.

    Awesome photos, Bob!

You know, I get so caught up in using my macro lens for extreme macro shots that I sometimes forget about its full capabilities! Thanks for that little reminder!

    BTW - Beautiful dog!!

Nice images Bob, it is very sharp, love that crop of the dogs mouth. I found my macro to be a reasonable landscape lens as well, I

    Bob,

    Nice pictures.

I just opened my 100L. Already, a lot of fun. I wish I had the lens during the "What is it" assignment.

If I could of,a potential entry:
