I love seeing your samples. Your images are usually great but these seem a bit dull? They don't have the usual pop.

I thought the background setting was really worth accentuating (the colors in the wallpaper, couch, pillows, and sky visible through the window).I tried tohighlight the background asmuch as the subject; many times, my shots focus so much on the subject that the background becomes an irrelevant part of the image. It's a possibility that I could have lit the subject more dramatically, but honestly, I would have had a very difficult time keeping the reflection of the lights out of the glass behind him (it was difficult enough as shot).


If I had it to do over again, I'd pull the lamp on the left in a little toward the subject to allow for more optimal framing. I'd also try a few shots with a larger mainlight coming from the side instead of straight on, and possibly increase the rimlight on the right side.

How the bottom part of the image is lost in darkness might be adding to the "dullness" you're sensing?


Maybe another speedlight on the ground to spill even light on the ground and the bottom of the couch will "lift" the image a bit?

I thought the first was really good, it had me wondering if you controled your light that well or if you photoshoped out any glare, stray light.


Only comment I had, everything is red, red background, red couch with a red headed guy with a red tie. It makes the picture hot and his skin tones red as well, I was just thinking if his skin tones were taken down a degree or two it would make him stand out in the picture. But then again maybe you were going for the red look and if thats the case you deffinelty got that.
