    Time to chill.

Too hot to be raiding the bird feeders.

Ahaha that's great tkerr! Such personality.

I'm not normally a huge bird photographer but my inner ornathologist came out during a recent fishing trip to the gulf. This is pretty much the first opportunity for the year that I've had to get up North to go fishing due to the long wet season we had this year. So it was very much alive up there, I certainly didn't want to go back to work.

My internet has been incredible slow lately so I haven't included exif data (because I can't be bothered looking through flickr), but if you click the image it will take you to my flickr page if you are interested. All shots were with the Canon 5D II and either the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L or Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II.

This is Indarri Falls at Lawn Hill National Park on the way to the Gulf. This place is AWESOME. I've been there 3 times now as I love it so much, we camped there for a couple of nights on the way up. It's a 10 shot panoramic stitched together in PTGUI, CPL attached for this shot.

This is a Brolga, they're a member of the crane family and are huuuuuge with a wingspan up to 2.4m (8ft). It was pretty difficult to get a decent shot of one because they frighten very easily. This is heavily cropped.

I took this shot at Adel's Grove just outside Lawn Hill National Park. I believe it's a wren of some kind but not sure which (maybe one of our regular birders can help me out here?). Inquisitive little fella though.

Here's another shot of the same bird (or maybe his friend, who knows)

I was driving into Karumba at sunset and came across this guy on the road. I managed to do a u-turn and get close to him before he slithered away. He's an eastern brown, a very common snake in my part of the county and one of the deadliest and most venomous snakes in the world (well, we do have the top ten most deadly snakes in the world here in Australia so it's pretty likely most snakes you see will be nasty).

At this point I was doing two things - being grateful that I've got enough spotlights on my truck to make night look like day and let me get the shot, and wishing that I had another 600mm of focal length. I was probably 5-10m away and very on my toes.

As I turned away to walk back to the car I looked back (after about 5m) and he had disappeared. The walk turned into a jog rather quickly. This photo doesn't really do justice to the size of this snake, it was a least 3.5m long and as thick as my arm, really beautiful actually.

I understand the watermark can be a little distracting but my photos were stolen from my flickr account a couple of years ago and the guy actually started selling them, so it's there for a reason.

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend. Thanks for looking.
