I missed this thread while I was away, but it's good to catch up again. There have been too many great shots to single any out, but it's good that this thread remains one of the most popular.
One of the highlights of my holiday was spending a couple of hours watching a flock of blue-footed boobies diving for fish at Rabida Island, Galapagos.

1D Mark IV, EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM @ 210mm, f/8, 1/2000s, ISO 2500
These birds achieve speeds of over 60 mph (100 kph) on hitting the water. It looks quite chaotic when there are several birds diving in a small area at the same time. Injuries are not uncommon when one bird hits another underwater. With a bit of patience, practice and luck, it is possible to isolate some order from the chaos:
