Joel, thats a great shot. I love how it looks like the pelican is touching the water but it hasn't rippled yet. I also like how the birds jump out from the dark background..


Im curious though about the setting of the shot, was it dark out and lit with a flash? also what are the lines across the *** of the birds being caused from?

Thanks Nick, this was taken from a pontoon boat with very early morning sun at my back, the lines are sun light reflected off the water.


The dark background is mangrove trees in the distance and I darkened it a little in photoshop but no flash was used.

What I believe is a Greater Sage-Grouse at Yellowstone.


I really had to much focal length with my 500mm to get the picture I wanted, the hen had two babies and I was not able to capture a good pic with all three of them together.
