This evening as I was driving home the sky, which had been gray flannel overcast all day, suddenly started clearing from the west just in time to catch the sun dropping below the horizon. As luck would have it, I was passing my favorite copse of evergreens and was able to include them in yet another spectacular midwest sunset. Lots of dramatic light tonight. I just need to remember my coat and gloves before I go running out into the fields with my camera and tripod. After 20 minutes in the 15mph wind at 40F, I was pretty cold.

Hi, just wanted to share some "documentary" photos from the past weekend: Last week a cargo ship was reported listing at almost 45 degrees at a position around 15-20 nautical miles off the coast where I live. After a couple of days they had luckily managed to rescue it safe to harbor and the first shot shows what it looked like then - the ship was listing at about 40 degrees. That was last Friday, and when I returned on Sunday they had unloaded much of the cargo which literally straightened things up. This is seen in the second photo. The third one is a crop of the first one that shows some more detail. This one also reveals an "IS" marking as well as red stripes - maybe that's what saved the ship;-)

@Bluesman - Fantastic series! You were really able to get great sharpness and exposure!
@cls - Nice documentary shots ...any idea how the heck this happened! Glad they were able to rescue all of the cargo, things could have turned out alot worse!

Well, I thought this shot was very appropriate the day before a snowstorm ...it is to remind me that spring is just around the corner (I hope)!

I'm not sure if anoyne knows exactly what happened, but the common theory is that some lashings burst and caused dislocation of the load. To me that seems plausible.
