When using this lens I often find that the camera will not take a picture at the 300mm range or the 75mm range. This is frustrating when I am taking pictures of hockey games as I sometimes miss a good picture of a goal etc. Any ideas?

The camera could be telling you that there is not enough light to work with. Is there a number blinking when you look through the viewfinder?
Words get in the way of what I meant to say.
When I shoot hockey pics I use a very high IS0 (around 5000) so that isn't the problem. It only happens between 75 and 100 and between 250 and 300. It is an intermittent problem. One time it will work and the next I will be taking a picture of the same spot (eg goalie in net) and it won't.
Do you mean you get a blurry picture, or the shutter doesn't fire at all?
The shutter button will not depress at all.
Maybe the camera cannot focus and refuses to take the picture?
I hadn't thought of that. I'll try manual focus and see if that helps. Thanks.
i have the same lens and manual focus can help me.
