Pat, great catch. Love it when the little guys get close enough for a portrait. Very good focus...

Another one by me, in this pose he looks almost fake!

    Cheers,

Amateurs worry about gear, pros about the pay, masters about the light, and I just take pictures!

John, Nice work with this little guy. I really like the background and backlight. Even the post seems to work here. The only improvements I can offer is to darken the hotspot at the base of the tail if possible, bring up the dark area under the eye and reduce the headroom just a tad. This really is a nice shot.

These are my first posts here, so any feedback is welcome. I am a total novice at PP, but want to make that more of a focus going forward. What (software) is recommended?

This little guy is fast, so not many "in flight" keepers.

That has to be one of the best Common Grackle pictures I have ever seen! If the lighting is just right on them, they actually look pretty! Nice job!

Thanks Denise. It's still ugly bird month in my yard. Lighting was about as good as it could get for Grackles and Cowbirds today. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a Cowbird to sit high on a perch, so the only decent one I have is slightly marred by my out-of-focus blind (fence with hole in it) at his/her feet:
