On this one, I replaced the feeder in the back of the bird with a photo I took awhile back of my neighbors tree. Looks better than the feeder did anyway!

Western Meadowlarks are fairly common east of Calgary... it's about time I went out and got a shot. They have a beautiful and long song, so if you fire off a fast burst you're likely to get a shot with its beak wide open.

Yes it is. They have attacked my back yard again this year so I took all the food out of the feeders. Maybe they won't swing by anymore and scare off my other birds. Here was the other shot I had from that little stop.
Thanks! I have the same problem with our provincial bird, the Great Horned Owl, which manages to evade me on a regular basis..!

It's a "Grackle" , I believe there is more than one variety....this one looks like a Boat tailed Grackle I think.Anybody know why I can't find a "Greckal" in Audubon Birds or Wiki?
