    Dear EW-83J...

    ...thank you for your heroic sacrifice in protecting your companion lens. Your service shall be fondly remembered. Rest in peace.



    Lens + hood combo fell from a height of about a meter while hiking a few weeks ago. Hood is gone, lens is unhurt.
    My gear: Canon 500D, 17-55mm F/2.8 IS, 70-200 F/4L IS, 100mm F/2.8 macro (non-USM), 50mm F/1.4

    Nope, if I remember right I had a circular polarizer on at the time of the incident. Which was also unhurt.
