I just wish some of the online resellers would stop the practice of raising prices just ahead of the rebate such that the rebate is mute. I remember seeing that happen in previous Canon rebates and it appears still to be a popular notion. Kinda kills the whole rebate thing if the price coincidentally rises $99 just ahead of a coming Canon rebate for $100 off a lens.

But they also have businesses to run, they aren't nonprofit corporations that exist to get us lenses at cost. I would guess a lot of their emphasis has shifted suddenly from "how low a price can we charge and remain profitable" to "how do we get enough lenses at any price". I'd guess making a few mistakes and judgmental errors in a wildly changing market is understandable, and not necessarily a plot. The manufacturers changed the market, not the retailers.
Incidentally, all three are also users on this forum and I appreciate their presence.
I hear ya Dan, but no matter who is doing what, it's coincidentally obvious to many Canon customers and simply "smells fishy". For people that follow the pricing of lenses they would like to own, the customer is not being "stimulated" into buying a lens via rebate if the price conveniently happens to rise just ahead of the rebate. The rebate is muted, and thus provides no real incentive to buy new other than fear of even higher prices. In today's economy, that simply means customers not really being incented to purchase.

Thing that twisted me is, I was waiting to buy the 16-35 2.8 and Adorama raised the price $100 so I bought it from B&H thinking they would raise there prices too which would negate the $100 rebate anyway. A few days later Adorama lowered the price back down and now I have a lens I paid $100 more for than I needed to. I know it's my fault for trying to predict the future but...
Anyone ever tried to get B&H or others to hook you up with the rebate on something bought a week or so be fore the rebate were announced?
I imagine I'm out of luck but I'll probably try.
Have seen these prices floating around but I wanted to wait until the official rebates come out to be sure.... and accurate of the pricing supplied.
That's a pretty safe policy - I'm not going to get bothered until I see some solid proof.
That said, I hope it's true. There's a couple of flashes I've been on the border about that are listed in the rumors.
