I own the 17-50mm DI II (non-vc) version and use that on a regular basis. I would have to say that it is as fast or maybe just a little faster than the tamron. Seems to grab focus a hair quicker. If racking it from one end to the other, it doesn't have super speed but quick enough. It usually locks on pretty quickly and doesn't hunt. That was what I was looking for. Maybe the STM motor makes it seem a little faster because it doesn't buzz quite as loud. Who knows. We're talking about fractions of a second. I used it at the concert tonight in terrible light and thought it did ok. I believe I will be keeping it. Little upset that I forgot to press the record button while attempting to video my kid dancing to a song, but all in all, the night was good.Originally Posted by andnowimbroke
