One thing I would add is that most people are more concerned with "background blur" than DoF. So even though 85mm f/2 and 135mm f/2 have the same DoF when framed similarly, the 135mm f/2 has noticeably more background blur (technically, it only has higher magnification of the background, but at f/2 it's probably blurry, and therefore more blurry than the 85mm).
Daniel, what is funny is I was sitting at my desk and I started thinking the same thing.
I clicked back on the thread and you just posted this.
Since backgrounds are usually a constant distance this would be all true. But if a person could adjust his background by the same ratio that you move forward or back to get the correct framing, then wouldn’t it adjust the bokeh to be similar?
Never the same of course, to many other variables that would come in to play.
Edit; but then you wouldn't have the same framing.
