    Memory card failure

Did a wedding yesterday. Had my first ever memory card failure

Fortunately my 1dmkIIn has redundant memory cards. All images accounted for.
The card was a Sandisk Ultra that was about 2.5 years old.

That is really scary! I'm glad it all worked out alright for you, Mark! How long are these cards suppose to last ...or how many photos? I have had one of cards for about as long as my camera, the others purchased maybe a year later. They are SanDisk also. I have noticed a few photos here and there that don't load onto my computer. I get a square with a broken jagged line through it in ZoomBrowser

These cards are electronic with no moving parts so they should last for 10+ years. I have some other cards that are 5 or 6 years old and still working fine.
For doing weddings you should replace them every couple of years. If you have had any problems with your cards I would replace them. Especially before you do your next wedding.

clemmb, were you able to reformat the card? Or, is it toast?

It reformatts fine and looks like it works now but I do not trust it now
I will be replacing it before the next wedding
My wife and I were discussing the memory card issue. No one in town carries a copact flash card in a 16gig. Walmart & Office depot carry the 8gig.
For 16gig or larger I will have to order. That is how it goes in a small town. They do have 16gig SD cards. This is what worries my wife and I that the new cameras do not use the Compact flash so they will be comming obsolete, which could obsolete my cameras. She did not like my answer that I'll just have to by 2-1DX's

clemmb, not likely any time in the foreseeable future. Besides, if that day ever comes, just load up on them. I'm sure they would be quite inexpensive by then.
