Sadly, I don't think there's much of a solution with on-camera flash. A remote flash, bounced upwards but from a spot much closer to the subject, might be the best way.

We're a Canon/Profoto family: five cameras, sixteen lenses, fifteen Profoto lights, too many modifiers.
