Nice eagles and owls .... cannot seem to locate the owls around here yet... I'm jealous.
I went to see a local band last Saturday and took the opportunity to try the 1DX at high ISO. This was taken with the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Version II at iSO 12,800 f/2.8 and shutter speed 1/200. No noise reduction in post, it's crazy! I used Nik Color Efex Pro .... the "Glamour glow" setting.
This lighthouse is leaning, and in the past when I would take a picture of it, I could never get the light square with the horizon - one or the other would be off. I thought maybe it was an optical illusion, but later found out it was built that way... thank goodnes because it was driving me nuts (short drive) trying to figure what I was doing wrong.

Joel...Thanks and great shot yourself. I agree, the fact that you didn't do NR is really impressive. The images coming from the latest 1DX are really impressive, especially at high ISO.
Pat....I am glad you have peace of mind. It is always good to find evidence we aren't crazy Beautiful shot....

A couple of shots from sunrise this morning. Once again I was drawn to Vermilion Lakes, in Banff, which has a continous patch of open water all winter. The first shot is with the Lee 'Big Stopper', 10-stop ND. I am really loving this filter. 2 minute exposure at f/16.
The second shot is a 3-image stitch with my 24 mm TS-E (camera in horizontal, lens shifted up and down). I used a polarizer to see the log under the water.

Absolutely spectacular, Jonathan.

Some AMAZING winter shots on here guys. Jonathan, we're in Vancouver at the moment but unfortunately we won't have a chance to do the drive you suggested, although it looked so amazing we're going to come back in the summer next year and do it then.
So we're staying at Kits Beach with some friends for now before heading up to Whistler next week. This is the first chance I've had to test out the gorrilapod focus + Really Right Stuff BH-30 combo. I must admit I was highly impressed, rock solid even with the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II on it. This however is with the Canon 35mm f/1.4L.
Enjoy, Ben
