Agreed on all counts. Overall, I don't see anything wrong with the image. But, I think a shot of a flat subject may tell you more, also, I'd try f/2.8. I've used wall calendars before. They have a grid and different sized writing that allows you to evaluate sharpness.

But, from the image posted, it does look like a good copy of the lens.
