    My current setup:

    My Father's Canon 600d
My Father's Canon Kit Lens (18-55)
Family Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM

    My Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM
My Canon EF 40mm f2.8 STM

    Plans for future:

Buying my own camera (90% 60D)
Buying my own general purpose lens (Tamron 17-50 f2.8 not stabilized version)
Craft with my hands a good belt+pockets for camera + wide-angle lens + zoom lens + general lens

Gift for my father: 18-135 so he can bring just one zoom-lens and the 70-300 will be mine

    Shoot.

    Hi everyone,

I'm looking into buying either an EF 300 f/2.8L IS II or the new EF 400 f/4 DO ID II with an EF 1.4X III.
Love the 300 with it's wide aperture but the 400 is lighter and longer but I have read a lot of bad reviews of the old 400 DO.
I have not yet made my choice.

Which do you think would be more useful...an extra stop of light or a 33% longer focal length? The weight difference isn't much. May want to wait for Bryan et al. to review the 400 DO II, but looking at Canon's MTF charts the MkII is a big improvement over the original 400 DO.

    Hi,

I will definitely wait for reviews but the more I think about it the 400 with it's longer focal lenght and weight saving (around 1 lbs) is more attractive to me.
Also I have the EF 70-200 f/2.8 if I need the fast aperture.
